Yasmin Chau, Andrew Krummenacher and Cori Hill

WHS seniors Yasmin Chau and Andrew Krummenacher have been named Commended Students in the 2008 National Merit Scholarship Program. About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Although they will not continue in the 2008 competition for National Merit Scholarships, Commended Students place among the top five percent of more than a quarter million students who entered the 2008 competition by taking the 2006 preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).

In addition, senior Cori Hill was recently named an outstanding participant referred to colleges in the 2008 National Achievement Program Scholarship competition. Cori was recognized based on her performance also on the PSAT.

All three students have plans to continue their education after graduation.  Ms. Chau is applying to University of Oklahoma and Texas Tech and plans to study biochemistry.  She would ideally like to be a researcher, but is interested also in teaching.  Ms. Chau is daughter of Asimah Othman and Kychau Chau.

Mr. Krummenacher wants to study philosophy and has applied to several schools including Austin College in Sherman, Texas, Texas Christian University and Trinity in San Antonio.  Although, undecided about a career path, his is leaning toward law and teaching.  His is the son of Stacy and Al Krummenacher.
