WISD teachers go to school October 8 was a district professional development day for WISD so while students slept in, educators went to school. Titled “Tools for Transformation: Meaningful Teamwork to achieve unprecedented student achievement,” teaching professionals and paraprofessionals worked and engaged with peers across the district, enhancing skills and developing strategies to help all students maximize their educational experiences.
WISD Staff Development, in partnership with the Curriculum, Special Services and campus administrators, hosted the all day program which included training in math, science and bilingual instruction. Some curriculum teams delved into literacy intervention exercises while others explored the opportunities that arise from differentiated learning.
“The design of the day was based on district summative data from our state assessments that show we have growth opportunities in math and science, “said Melissa Heller, Director of WISD Staff Development. “We also focused on working with our special populations.”
Staff members are required to complete 13 days of professional learning during a school year as part of their contract with WISD. Most training days are offered prior to or after the school year. However, most districts including Wylie ISD, provide four to five days during the school year for educators to complete their required training.
