Wylie fire trucks named by Hartman and Akin students | | Maryn Rizzo |
In honor of Fire Prevention Month, the Wylie Fire Department held a poster contest to name its two new fire trucks. Using their artistic abilities and creative minds, fourth graders across WISD turned in wonderful entries that will remain on the trucks for their twenty year commissions. The winners were Maryn Rizzo of Akin Elementary and Alex McKenzie and Tyler Svoboda of Hartman Elementary, who tied for their award. The winners were announced at an assembly at each school hosted by the Fire Department.
Maryn turned in the name “The Guardian” and Alex and Tyler both suggested the name “Pirate.” Each student was presented a framed certificate and an honorary badge by Wylie Fire Chief Randy Corbin. The students also received an invitation to visit the fire station to see the trucks. The Guardian and the Pirate are planned to be housed at Wylie’s newest station located Brown and W.A. Allen.
