Dear Parents or Guardians of Drama Students:

The purpose of this letter is to give you an overview of theatre policies and procedures at Wylie High School.

PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT

We have a very active Wylie Theatre Booster Club (WTBC). Parental involvement is the key to student success. High expectations lead to high performance. Effective communication among teacher, students and their parents increases productivity in the classroom. All trite phrases, but nonetheless true. In an effort to foster the communication process, let me share some of my expectations with you.

We fully expect to be calling upon you for help in our productions, but we’ll try to be extremely clear in what we need and give you plenty of notice. Please look over the syllabus, calendar, and other material on this site. Outside of class stage work is required for Theatre Production and Technical Theatre II - IV classes.

BEHAVIORAL EXPECTATIONS

Behavioral expectations and consequences are clearly stated in the student handbook, and will be enforced in the drama classroom. Because of the physical nature of many of the activities, respect for individual and group rights and responsibilities will be stressed.

The school board has decided to implement a drug-testing policy. This may affect students involved in UIL competition, or performances for which admission is charged.

GRADING POLICY

Daily Work & Homework 33% Major Grades (Quizzes, Tests, Performances) 67%

Students missing a required rehearsal or performance will receive:
Unexcused Absence (defined by student handbook) 50%

Excused Absence (defined by student handbook) work to be made up
within 72 hours at
teacher’s discretion
(85% maximum grade)

INTERNATIONAL THESPIAN SOCIETY TROUPE #2395

Wylie High School holds a troupe charter in the International Thespian Society. Officers are elected in May for the following school year. Students are invited to join the society by participation in theatre-related activities. A separate handout issued by the ITS is can be found elsewhere on this website.
