PIRATE SPOTLIGHT NEWS
Because of hard work, creativity and enthusiasm, the Wylie High School Friends of Rachel Club has been chosen as the Rachel's Challenge School Of The Year. Darrell Scott (Rachel’s father) will be at WHS on May 7 to present the award personally at a 2:30 p.m. assembly.
Rachel Scott was the first student killed in the rampage at Columbine High School in 1999. After reading her journals and thinking about the life that she had led, her family began Rachel’s Challenge as a program for high school students. (see www.rachelschallenge.com ) Taking Rachel’s philosophy of using acts of kindness to make a difference, the group, sponsored by assistant principal Virdie Montgomery, has grown dramatically in the several years since its inception. The WHS club’s service resume is here. |
