The LEAPS program will generate an assessment on each at-risk, 9th grade student and will provide an individual plan targeting the deficiencies identified. The needs are then addressed via a comprehensive curriculum encompassing 109 individual skills, each with lesson plans and student exercises.

This program will take the learned skills and knowledge from reading, writing and math and apply them to everyday life skills requirements. These assignments will include balancing a check book, purchasing items at retail outlets, reading want ads and understanding the content as it applies to the student, applying socially acceptable skills for employment.

Program Title: Project HOPE (Holocaust Overcoming Prejudice Everywhere)

Provide a trunk full of exhibit items to review for the study of the Holocaust era of WWII. In addition, information regarding the Diary of Anne Frank and examples of the products of that era are available. Eliminate the need for borrowing the items for each of the classes.

Grant Recipient: Hartman Elementary
Program Title: Project Family Literacy WALKS [Wylie Achieving Language, Knowledge, and Skills],
Amount: $15,300 sponsored by The Verizon Foundation
The new Family Literacy WALKS program will expand and enhance with the use of technology in Wylie ISD’s evening Adult ESL Literacy program held at Hartman Elementary to an evening Family Literacy program. The new Family Literacy WALKS program will include an academically-centered Children’s ESL class for a maximum of 20 Pre-K thru grade 5 students operating at the same time/location as their parents’ Adult ESL classes.
