Visual Arts

Elementary School -- Kindergarten - 4th Grade
The Elementary Art program provides the foundation for each art student in the Wylie Independent School District. Each student is introduced to art history and culture which enables the student to develop and organize ideas. The students are also exposed to the Elements and Principles of Design, which are the tools of a successful art program. It is hoped that each child will develop the skills necessary for producing drawings, paintings, and constructive sculptures using a variety of materials and media. Students are given the opportunity to participate in the annual district-wide art show during Celebrate the Arts.
Intermediate School -- 5th - 6th Grades
The Intermediate Art program builds upon the elementary foundation by expanding each student's knowledge, skills, expressive qualities and creativity. The intermediate level also introduces the students to direct observation drawing, expressive painting, multi-media works, and computer artwork. Students are given the opportunity to participate in the annual district-wide art competition and show.
Junior High -- 7th - 8th Grades
The Junior High Art program provides a broad range of unifying activities. Students increasingly rely on the perceptions of their environment and increase the visual awareness of their surroundings, memory, imagination, and life experiences which provide inspiration for creating original artworks. By challenging their imaginations with new techniques and materials, the students refine their skills by expressing their thoughts and ideas creatively. Students are given the opportunity to participate in the annual district-wide art competition and show.
High School -- 9th - 12th Grades
The High School Art program provides a variety of opportunities for the developing art student and prepares them for university study or careers in an art-related field. Course offerings include: Art, Drawing, Ceramics, Painting, Photography, Pre-AP and AP Portfolio coursework. The High School program offers a multitude of advanced tools, software, resources, materials and experience necessary to compete, display and appreciate art. Students are given the opportunity to participate in the annual district-wide art competition and show.
