5th Grade Science - Student Outcomes

The student will...

  • develop proficiency in use of scientific tools:
    • calculator, microscopes, cameras, sound recorders, computers, hand lenses, rulers, thermometers, compasses, balances, hot plates, meter sticks, timing devices, magnets, collecting nets, safety goggles
  • develop proficiency in understanding in and application of scientific method
  • develop working knowledge of:
    • structures, systems and properties, adaptations, inherited traits, learned behaviors, ecosystem, niche, forms of  energy, classifying matter, functions of earth systems, cycles
  • plan and implement investigations using scientific method
  • identify structures and functions of earth systems
  • learn how past effects on present events
  • classify matter
  • learns forms of energy
  • understand adaptation of species
  • understand inherited traits/learned characteristics
  • learn about the natural world
  • understand system interactions
  • use patterns to predict
  • understand that science changes as we investigate questions about the natural world
  • plan and implement field and lab investigations:
    • scientific methods
    • analyze information
    • make informed decisions
    • use tools to record info
  • Identify structures and functions of earth systems:
    • parts of the earth and weathering
    • how past events affect present events, i.e. erosion
    • classify matter by properties including magnetism and conductivity
  • understand forms of energy
