The student will...

·         Take notes during oral presentations

·         Organize spoken messages

·         Summarize spoken messages

·         Evaluate own presentations

·         Read widely in classic and contemporary selections and informational texts

·         Understands idioms, mm words, analogies in text

·         Distinguish denotative / connotative meaning

·         Use word origins to understand historical influences on word meanings

·         Use study strategies to learn / recall important ideas

·         Recognize literary devices: flashback, foreshadowing, symbolism

·         Select and use different forms of writing for specific purposes (inform, persuade, entertain)

·         Vary sentence structure

·         Use more complex punctuation (-, ;, ‘s)

·         Edit writing based on grammar and usage, spelling, punctuation and other conventions

·         Produce final, error-free pieces of written composition on a regular basis

·         Search out multiple texts to complete research reports / projects

·         Evaluate purposes and effects of film, print and technological presentations

·         Assess how language, medium and presentation contributes to meaning
