The student will...

·         Develop oral language and communications

·         Become independent readers and writers

·         Listen and connect experiences and ideas with print

·         Respond/listen to a variety of children’s literature

·         Develop new vocabulary

·         Recognize features of various texts

·         Develop concepts of print

·         Understand spoken language composed of sequences of sounds represented by letters

·         Name and order alphabet

·         Associate sounds with letter symbols

·         Learn and use common letter – sounds correspondences

·         Read appropriate leveled text with fluency and understanding

·         Demonstrate comprehension

·         Become adept writers

·         Differentiate between words, sentences and paragraphs

·         Organize thoughts and ideas into complete stories or reports (orally and written)

·         Use subjects and verbs to write complete sentences

·         Use basic capitalization and punctuation

·         Become proficient spellers of high frequency words and regularly spelled pattern words

·         Demonstrate left to right / top to bottom in a written message with increasingly controlled penmanship
