Students with high mathematical abilities based on standardized or curriculum based assessments will receive differentiated instruction to meet their needs within the general math course for these grade levels. GT teachers meet in cluster classrooms to extend math instruction at each grade level weekly. |
5th Grade Math |
Students will be enrolled in heterogeneously grouped classes. |
Students who show high mathematical abilities based on the pre-assessment will receive differentiated instruction to meet their needs within the general math course. Math teachers will cluster students to extend math instruction daily. |
Differentiated activities and instruction will be used to serve the needs of all students. |
6th Grade Math |
Students will be enrolled in heterogeneously grouped classes. |

Students entering 7th or 8th grade will receive a letter containing math data collected from the current school year. This information will help parents determine the best placement for their children. |

Struggling students will have the option to change schedules to 8th grade math at a time determined by the campus. | **Students wishing to move directly from 7th Grade Pre-Algebra to 8th Grade Algebra I must demonstrate successful completion of 7th Grade Pre-Algebra by achieving an end-of-year average of at least 70%. Please note that because of the difficulty of this course, an end-of –year average of 80% is highly recommended.
Students who take Algebra I in junior high will receive high school course credit(s). The grades received for Algebra I and geometry (or any other high school level course) will not count toward the student’s four year high school GPA. Also, an additional three math credits will be required at the high school level for graduation from WISD.
