STRUCTURE OF GIFTED & TALENTED STUDENT SERVICES


All identified students in first through twelfth grades receive year-long services in the W.I.N.G.S. Program.
Kindergarten
  • Students who are identified in the spring are served in a pull-out class for a minimum of one hour per week on or before March 1.
  • WISD uses the McGee-Keiser Gifted & Talented curriculum for Academic Enrichment Programs.
1st & 2nd Grades
The campus GT teacher will serve grades K-2. Program features will include:
  • Weekly pull-out program by the certified campus Gifted and Talented Program teacher combined with cluster work within the classroom.
  • Use McGee Keiser Gifted Curriculum Program correlated to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and district aligned bundles.
  • Group interaction with other gifted and talented students, as well as, all students within the regular classroom
  • Independent study products and/or performances
3rd & 4th Grades
The campus GT teacher will serve grades 3-4. Program features will include:
  • Weekly pull-out program by the certified campus Gifted and Talented Program teacher combined with cluster work within the classroom
  • Use McGee Keiser Gifted Curriculum Program correlated to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and district aligned bundles.
  • Group interaction with other gifted and talented students, as well as, all students within regular classroom.
  • Independent study products and/or performances
5th – 6th Grades
The campus GT teachers will serve grades 5-6. Program features will include:
  • GT classes in English/Language Arts
  • The College of William & Mary Curriculum for the Gifted and Talented correlated to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and district aligned bundles.
  • Regular classroom using advanced differentiated strategies monitored by Gifted/Talented Campus Coordinator
  • Independent study products and/or performances
  • Advanced math classes.
7th - 8th Grades
Grades 7-8 will be served by instructors certified in gifted and talented education through the following options:
  • GT classes in English/Language Arts
  • The College of William & Mary Curriculum for the Gifted and Talented correlated to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and district aligned bundles.
  • Regular classroom using advanced differentiated strategies monitored by Gifted/Talented Campus Coordinator
  • Independent study products and/or performances
  • Pre-AP classes in the math, science, and social studies subject areas.
9th - 10th Grades
Grades 9-10 will be served by instructors certified in gifted and talented
  • Humanities I and II classes
  • Pre-AP and AP courses in core subject areas and fine arts:
    o Laying the Foundation pre-AP Strategies correlated to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and district aligned bundles.
    o College Board approved AP course syllabi
  • Advanced Courses in CATE
  • Occasional after school/evening seminars or lectures
11th - 12th Grades
Grades 11-12 will be served in the following ways:
  • Performance Standards Project Independent Study in English course
  • Pre-AP and AP courses in core subject areas and fine arts
    o Laying the Foundation pre-AP Strategies correlated to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and district aligned bundles.
    o College Board approved AP course syllabi
  • The Distinguished Achievement Program Graduation Plan Requirements
  • Dual Enrollment College Courses
  • Occasional after school/evening seminars or lectures
