Grading Policy



A uniform grading system is used in the elementary schools. The following marks will be used on report cards for grades 2-4:

A - 90-100
B - 80-89
C - 70-79
F - below 69
S - Satisfactory
N - Needs Improvement

The school shall determine student achievement using a numerical score on a scale of 0-100. Numerical scores shall be established for the subjects of language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies. S or N will determine are, music, and physical education, health and citizenship. S or N will not determine science and social studies in second grade.

Letter grades shall also be used for Kindergarten and number grades will be used for first grade with the following grade explanations:

Kindergarten 
M - Mastered
D - Developing 
Not Introduced

First Grade
M - Mastered (85%-100%)
D - Developing (70%-88%)
C - Area of Concern (Below 70%)

Report Cards
Report cards will be issued on the following dates: September 28,2006, November 9, 2006, January 4,2007, February 15,2007, April 12, 2007, and May 24,2007. Report cards must be signed by the parent and returned to the school within five days.

Progress Reports
Progress Reports will be completed on all students during each six weeks except in Pre-K and Kindergarten. Additionally, behavior issues of concern will be addressed in the progress report. Complete grading records will be made available to parents upon request. Special Education and ESL teachers will be notified if any student is in danger of failing. Progress reports will be issued on the following dates. September 7, 2006, October 19, 2006, November 30,2006, January 25, 2007, March 8, 2007, and May 3, 2007.

Late Work
Class work turned in after the day it is due will be marked down as follows:
1st Grade: 5 points off 3rd Grade 10 points off 2nd Grade: 5 points off 4th Grade 10 points off

Homework
Homework will not be graded. It is to be used as a tool for practice on what was taught in the classroom. It will be checked for completion at the end of each week.

Tutorials
Tutorials are based upon teacher referral. Students may attend morning tutorials on Tuesday and Thursday from 7:15 -7:45am and/or Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 2:15-3:15 pm. Students in need of tutorials are expected to attend either morning or afternoon tutorials for additional assistance as long as the teacher recommends attendance in sessions.
