Conduct/Discipline Policy 
Hartman Elementary School are expected to conduct themselves in a manner that demonstrates respect for authority, respect for fellow students and self, and respect for property. As we work and grow together, the following expectations will assure a safe and orderly school environment for all students:
Student Expectations for Hallway Behavior
· Students will walk quietly in the hallway. · Students will keep hands, feet, and other objects to themselves · Students will walk in a straight line.
Morning Cafeteria Procedures
Children arriving at school before 7:40am are expected to wait in the cafeteria (Pre-K - 2) or the gym (3 - 4 grades) and read quietly or listen to a story read by an older student.
Each child will be given the opportunity to eat breakfast until 7:40am The food line will close at 7:40am so that all children can eat breakfast and get to class on time.
Children are not permitted to bring toys or games to school. These items will be taken up and given to the Principal. Only Parents will be permitted to pick up the toy or game.
Student Expectations for Cafeteria/Lunchroom Behavior
PreK-2nd grade students will sit as a classroom during lunch. 3rd & 4th grade students will sit as a grade level during lunch. Food is used to provide nutrients to each person's body; it is not meant to be thrown (play appropriately). Students will keep hands, feet, and other objects to themselves. While in the cafeteria, students will use an "inside voice".
While students are sitting at the tables during lunch, they are expected to stay in their seats (preK-2nd) and raise their hand when they need assistance.
All students are expected to clean up trash and food from their table.
School-Wide Classroom Expectations
In order to allow all students an opportunity to learn to their best ability, all students are expected. Talk at the appropriate time and use an "inside" voice. Follow adult directions, eyes on speaker, listen with ears, and keep body still. Keep hands, feet, and other objects to yourself. Turn in completed work on time. When students are unable to follow school-wide expectations, the following procedures will be implemented: Step 1: The teacher will give one verbal warning/request. The teacher wills state the desire behavior/expectation. Step 2: A second request or redirection by the teacher with the consequence stated signing of the Communications Log would be given to the student. Step 3: A third request or redirection by the teacher indicates that the teacher will sign the Communication Log. Step 4: Two redirections in one day will result in "time-out" in the classroom or at recess; Grades K-2: 10 minutes, or Grades 3-4: 20 minutes. "Time-out" means sitting in silence with hands to self. Step 5: Three redirections in one day will result in a discipline referral, and student will be sent to the Principal's office. Step 6: Four redirections in one day will result in "In School Suspension (ISS) for the remainder of the day and Communications Log signed.
A 20 point reduction of the Communications Log may result in an automatic detention. Any 20 point infraction will be sent to the Principal's office with a discipline referral. Detention will be assigned to any student receiving a citizenship grade as indicated on the Communications Log below 70%. The teacher will notify the parent and a date will be arranged within a one-week period.
After-School Detention will be held for students who have an unsatisfactory citizenship grade and/ or who are assigned detention by the Principal. Detention is held on Friday afternoon in the cafeteria from 2:45-3:15 pm. Parents will be notified through a phone call from the classroom teacher or principal. Parents will be asked to sign and return the Discipline Referral form that will come home with the child.
