Wear RED
This Friday, February 5, 2010 is National Wear Red Day, supporting the American Heart Associations, Go Red For Women! Teachers and students are encouraged to show their support to bring awareness to the number one killer of women, heart disease. Everyone can support the fight against heart disease by wearing red this Friday. This is a great and powerful way to raise awareness of heart disease and stroke.

Red Shirt with standardized dress.

Your students have received their Read-A-Thon packet this week. Please continue collecting pledges from friends and family for the 6 hours of reading you will be doing on Friday, February 5th from 4:00pm to 10:00pm. Pledge packets and money must be turned in on Monday, February 1st to your Language Arts teacher to be eligible to participate.

We have an exciting night of guest readers, reading activities and free reading time planned for all the participants. The guest readers include a policeman, a representative from the Heard Museum, students from Wylie East, fireman and fire truck, a representative from In-Sync Exotic Zoo and a National Guard Airman. We will serve snacks and pizza for dinner. Each participant will receive a free gently used chapter book and a bookmark. Half-Priced Bookstore gift cards and other prizes will be awarded to the top three fundraisers. If you need a pledge envelope, please contact the Harrison Intermediate Librarian, Shelly Ford.

Please note that the February Book Drive has been postponed until March 12th due to the Read-A-Thon.

Harrison Peer Mediators
have been selected for the 2009-2010 school year. These students will be trained to help other students settle problems. Being a mediator is challenging! When individuals are involved in a conflict and can’t handle it themselves, mediators act as the third person to help them talk out the problem and come to a win/win solution.
Peer Mediators:
Cruz, Claudia
Daniel, Halie
DeMolay, Brodhi
Martinez, Devon
Myles, Kourtnee
Svoboda, Tyler
Szczot, Emily
Walker, Ruthie
