Immunization

DIPTHERIA-TETANUS-PERTUSSIS (DTP/DtaP/DT/Td)

A MINIMUM SERIES OF FOUR (4) DOSES. The last dose after age 4. If 7 yr. Or older, three (3) doses. The last dose after age 4. Booster is required every 10 years.

****DUE TO A NATIONAL SHORTAGE OF DT, THE TEXAS DEPT. OF HEALTH IS DEFERRING FOR THE SCHOOL YEAR 2001/2002 THE BOOSTER DT DOSE (usually given at age 14) There is no change in the state policy for DtaP schedule.

****The supply of tetanus and diphtheria toxoids (Td) in the United States has become sufficient to allow resumption of the routine schedule for Td vaccination as recommended by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP).

The deferral for the 10-year Td booster dose requirement remains in effect through the 2002-2003 school year and the deferment will end July 31, 2003. On August 1, 2003, all students will be expected to be current on all of their immunizations and school records will be expected to be complete.

POLIO (ORAL)

A minimum series of three (3) doses. The last dose after age 4.

RUBEOLA (RED MEASLES), RUBELLA (GERMAN MEASLES), MUMPS, MMR

One (1) dose given on or after 1st birthday. MD confirmation of prior measles or mumps illness will no longer be accepted in lieu of the vaccination. A 2nd dose of Measles is required for all students age 5 and older who are born on or after Sept.2, 1991. If birthday was before Sept.2, 1991, 2nd dose of vaccine by age 12.

Hib (HEMOPHILUS INFLUENZA)

Three (3) doses for all children 4 years or younger. The last dose on or after 15 mos of age UNLESS a primary series and booster was received prior to or at 15 mos of age.

HEPATITIS B (EFFECTIVE 8/1/98)

All students born on or after Sept. 2, 1992 require three (3) doses of vaccine to enter school.

HEPATITIS B (EFFECTIVE 8/1/2000)

All students born on or after Sept 2, 1988, but before Sept.2, 1992 are required to have 3 doses of vaccine by age 12.

VARICELLA (CHICKENPOX) (EFFECTIVE 8/1/2000)

Varicella vaccine or a documented history of previous illness required for:

(1) Children born on or after Sept. 2,1994 who are 12 months or older
(2) Children born on or after Sept.2, 1988, but before Sept.2, 1994. These children will be required to show proof of vaccination or documented history of chickenpox illness by their 12th birthday.
***** If 1st dose received at age 13 or later, 2 doses are required.
